Afghanistan, Pakistan, India all eye US MRAPs

After Pakistan requested US for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) its neighbors (India and Afghanistan) have also started seeking MRAPs for themselves and lobbying against Pakistan.

According to Military Times, India assumes that Pakistan can use MRAPs against it so it is opposing the deal. Instead, it says that unlike the land in Pakistan MRAPs are perfect for seeking out insurgents in India. Therefore, it deserves MRA

Ps more than Pakistan.

When Afghanistan, the war-stricken country got the news of request of Pakistan it also started opposing the deal saying that many Afghani soldiers could have been saved if MRAPs were provided to Afghan military. They also are seeking MRAPs and opposing the deal to Pakistan saying that Pakistan can use it against Afghanistan in future wars.

On the other hand, MRAPs production companies in America have started asserting to US government not to destroy the excess military MRAPs as selling spare parts for MRAPs will be a ‘fruitful business’ for them.

It should be noted that MRAPs were first built by US defense minister Robert Gates for protecting its soldiers in Iraq because Humvees were poorly protected against buried explosives.

There are more than thousand MRAPs in Afghanistan that neither US army nor US navy wants. However, these MRAPs are a significant weapon against insurgents in many countries. So, US has made an Excess defense article (EDA) program to carry out provision of excess military equipment to different countries through proper channel.
