A Russian military expert has said that Iran is the number one choice for Russia amid differences with the west.
Russia is witnessing a trough in relationships with the west. The western military organization NATO has frozen all military pacts with Russia and USA and UK have imposed sanctions on the country.
The military expert Igor Korotchenko, Chief editor of national defense newspaper, cites that if this goes on the country can plunge in to another cold war with the west. However, he says if the country wants to remain, stable it needs strong economy and trade and Iran is a suitable country for this purpose.
Russia previously settled on $800 million for S-300 missile deal with Iran. However, due to imposition of sanctions on Iran due to nuclear program led to postponement of the program.
The expert sees that as an opportunity for Russia to renew its trade pact with Iran if sanctions are lifted by UN.
