5 reasons why you should not take ice bucket challenge

ALS ice bucket challenge went viral this year in the middle of June on social media. The challenge is simple. You are nominated by your friend and you have to perform the challenge. That is, drop ice-cold water on your head and donate 10 $ to the cause as per Wikipedia. If you don’t do the challenge you have to donate 100 $ to the cause.

Many have been nominated and many have performed the challenge and we do not know how many have donated but the amount is between 50 to 60 million dollars that has been donated for ALS research.

What is ALS?

ALS is (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) a disease that puts patients on slow paralysis. Means a person’s body parts start to freeze. He cannot move his limbs and moves towards a slow death. Not many people stay alive after 5 to 6 years. As a matter of evil fact, there is no cure available!

But there is some criticism that in fact is logical. Let’s have a look at it.

It wastes water

Water is wasted due to the challenge. Around 2 million people have attempted the challenge and a bucket can hold 10 litres of water than around 20 million liters of water has been wasted in the last 3 months due to the ALS challenge.

Ice bucket challenge is more about fun rather than donation

The program (read challenge) is not making people aware. Those who have attempted the challenge don’t even know what ALS is. What many are doing is just for fun they have no idea what it is and they don’t want to get any information about it. Even in videos, they are doing it more for fun and do not even talk about ALS.

Participants do not share donation details in videos

These participants not even share details of the donations they are going to make and this turns the overall game bad. Because what is the use of such a video where a participant attempts something and doesn’t tell what was the purpose of him doing that.

People get injured

Yes many people get injured during ALS ice bucket challenge. Check this Ice bucket challenge fail video to know more about what is said here.

Disheartening those who do not have water or electricity

What about those who do not have water or electricity? Do they not deserve the water that is being wasted?

This is what we call cruel reality. On one side we are supporting the cause and on the other hand we are squashing another cause. This really is disheartening.

Forget America, in Pakisan where thousands die due to lack of water PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s sister has taken the ice bucket challenge. And that is a shameful thing.

Recommendation:

A better way was to just donate the money for the cause.
