Karachi: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced Rs1 billion aid for famine-affectees in his visit to Tharparkar today, Radio Pakistan reported.
The cataclysm has claimed around 100 lives including those of children. The prime minister visited the area to meet the affectees and oversee the relief efforts.
He said that steps should be taken so this state does not persist.
While expressing concern on the deaths PM said that those who are not ready to migrate should be provided health facilities at their doorsteps through mobile units.
He directed the government to take strict actions against those who despite the availability of wheat in abundance did not distribute it to the drought-affected people.
