Canadian former minister wished ‘soldiers could have been prepared for Afghan war’

In an interview to CBC Radio former Canadian defense minister Peter MacKay accepted that Canada could have done ‘much more’ for its soldiers in Afghanistan, reported CBC.ca.

Around 158 Canadian soldiers have lost their lives in the war in Afghanistan.

While talking about the mission in Afghanistan he wished that, ‘Canada could have provided more support to its soldiers in the earlier days of war’.

He cited that the government could have prepared its soldiers about the ‘ferocity of the mission that dawned upon them (soldiers).

Most of the military veterans are having post war trauma and stress disorders when they get home from Afghanistan war. The spate of suicide of war veterans is also related to the mental illness that soldiers face during and after war. Most of them commit suicides and others set out in firing frenzy-damaging property and killing other soldiers.

Previously, US defense ministry stated that more than 2000 US soldiers had died in Afghan war.
